Playing without an account
You can play as a guest. Your browser keeps your settings and the run in progress on your own device (local storage), so you can continue where you left off. While you play online, our server sees your connection's IP address, as every website does, and uses it to keep the game fair and working (for example to limit too many requests).
What an account keeps
- Your account: your username, email address, and your password stored only as a secure hash (we never see the password itself). If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, profile picture link and an account identifier from them; we never receive your Google or Apple password.
- Your sessions: a sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in, with the time, IP address and browser of each sign-in, so you can stay signed in and we can spot misuse.
- Your games: your matches (placements, final boards, fighters, items, augments and Captains), ratings and ranks, leaderboard standing, profile picture and banner choices, and settings you save to your account.
- Security records: counts of failed sign-ins kept against a scrambled (hashed) form of the email or username, and request limits by IP address, to stop people guessing passwords.
- Feedback: if you send a note from the site's feedback form, the note and any name or contact you add.
What other players can see
Your username, profile picture, banner, rank, leaderboard standing and match history are public in the game. Casual matches can be watched live by other players. Your email address is never shown to anyone.
Why we use it
Only to run the game: to sign you in, save your progress, match and rate games, show leaderboards, send the emails you ask for (confirming your email and resetting your password), stop cheating and abuse, and fix problems. We do not sell your data, we show no ads, and we do not use your data for advertising.
Who helps us run the game
- DigitalOcean hosts the game server and its database (in the United States).
- Resend sends account emails (confirmation and password reset).
- Cloudflare checks sign-ups and password resets for bots (Turnstile) and helps deliver the site.
- Google and Apple, only if you choose to sign in with them.
- Google Fonts serves the site's fonts, so your browser asks Google for them.
Each of them handles data under its own privacy policy, only to provide its service to us.
How long we keep it
Account data, match records and ratings are kept while your account exists. Recordings of ranked fights are deleted after about a week. Backups of the database are encrypted and replaced over time. Records we no longer need are deleted.
Your choices
You can change your profile in the game at any time. To see what we hold about you, correct it, or delete your account and its data, email [email protected] from the address on your account. We answer within 30 days. If you signed in with Google or Apple, you can also remove our access from your Google or Apple account settings.
Children
The game is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly keep data about them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update this page and its date. For a big change we will say so in the game.
